I think I need to find a place to do my work. Working at home isn't actually the most efficient way to get things done as I'll just slack and procrastinate.

Perhaps I need to set a daily schedule for time spent working, maybe in McDonald's or Starbucks or something. However, that will certainly take the "Home" out of "Work At Home" and it beats the purpose of staying at home which saves fuel and extra costs...

Hmm. I need to find a way to get it sorted somehow... Gotta work my priorities out.

Gamefest 3 - Evolution: An Uninteresting Report On An Exciting Event

After a year of planning, failing, depending on others, then failing, delaying, postponing, coordinating and preparing, Gamefest 3 has finally come to a conclusive end. It felt really good working with others and as a team to bring the event into a full swing.

There were a number of sub-events that made up Gamefest 3. It was especially great to see so many people flocking over to join a world-stage Rubiks Cube event, or the cool gadgets that were on exhibition such as the Alienware gaming laptops and Windows Phone 7 hands-on. The Cyber Open 2011 Rubiks Cube event attracted so many contestants that even cubers from Netherlands and Philippines came over to participate. It is amazing how people could solve the puzzle blindfolded or with one hand. The Self-Interest Games division also brought in a dice stacking group over to display their skills and teach some of them to the visitors.

Everyone had fun with the Xbox 360 Kinect and the consoles that were around for free play, Kinect Adventures and the Fighters Uncaged really appealed to the crowd. I personally liked how accurate the camera captures your gestures and mimic them completely and flawlessly, representing your actions as a player character. Fighters Uncaged really had its way with the crowd as it makes you feel really engaged in the fight and it allowed you to show off a few self-taught chops. Other console games such as Rock Band and Super Street Fighter 4 captivated a huge crowd of guitarist wannabes and pretend street fighters, and that's a good thing.

On the side was the Board and Card Games section where people could learn new non-electronic games and mingle around at the round tables. One very exciting card game is the Monopoly Deal, it's nothing like the original Monopoly bored game. I meant "board", sorry. There were a selection of games such as Cluedo, World of Warcraft Battlegrounds, Vanguard and Sabotage, just to name a few. These games are a great deal of fun to learn and also master!

Finally there's also the LAN party and DotA tournament which took place during the Gamefest event, with the tournament only happening on the second day. The LAN party was successful during the first day but failed to see good reception during the second due to the tournament's exceptional response.

On the first day, people gathered around the LAN party area and arrived with their own machines to play with everyone else. Games such as Pudge Wars, Warlock, DotA, Counter-Strike, Need For Speed: Shift 2 Unleashed were just some of the games played during the LAN party. The DotA tournament that happened on the 2nd day of the event started off slow and only picked up speed when the network problems experienced by the computers were fixed. However, the schedule was too tight to meet, so the finals, along with the match for 3rd place, had to be delayed until after the closing ceremony. It ended well with no big issues.

Generally, the event went pretty well with support and sponsorship from several vendors and corporate figures such as Gardenia, Jayacom, Ban Leong, Corsair and Gigabyte. Codemasters came with the intention to push the gaming industry forward among Malaysian students and game content developers. They also promoted their game "Dirt 3" and "Operation Flashpoint: Red River" on a game racing seat and Alienware machines. On the second day, Codemasters' Ivan Smith gave an inspiring and humorous talk on career prospects in the gaming world.

Yin Yeung at 7pm just now and a full course steamboat at 11pm.

"A giant bug splat." That's probably the most accurate analogy I can come up with right now, after a series of concussions. The skies were as grey as the emissions of a dysfunctional truck and a tint of red was veiled behind the grey. With the occasional thunder and lightning, the clouds resembled a witch's brewing pot -- boiling and brimming with foul spell odour.

I was in a DeLorean. A timed machine at best, gladly still fueled. It is a wonder at all to find any fuel at all, an even more wonderful event to find a car with fuel in it. A crude joke by the prankster high above. At least I still believed in one. In this barren and forsaken abyssal void, one can only try to believe that he's not alone. These Zeds are no less different, always looking to devour memories to keep their zombic ways alive.

There is no point.

Errr... Right. I'd just say that the above is a most unlikely event. :D

A Vanilla Sky

Too bad I didn't write it down straight after I woke up from it. I didn't have enough enthusiasm to do so which is why I could only remember certain parts of the dream.

I remember Jay Chou was in my dream. Don't know why, really.

I was with Woon Kee at dunno where in Malaysia and it started snowing. So many beautiful snowflakes! They were so aligned that it looked like it was computer generated.

I also noticed that I was in a dream when I took out a paper and looked at it and it was empty. I imagined something I wanted to see on it and it something else appeared, dreams are really hard to fathom.

When I realized I was dreaming I got lucid. Once it happened I keep telling myself "I am lucid, stay lucid. Stay lucid. Keep dreaming.". I was thinking what should I do after that, then the most common idea came to me.

I started flying.

The funny thing is I flew in a 3D camera kind of way at first. I strafed left and right and panned up and down like how a camera would in 3D modelling softwares. When you fly you tend to wake up, so take it slow and easy. Focus on your flight and keep reminding yourself to stay asleep.

It was funny how I got out of the 3D camera mode, I did the Superman pose and I could control the direction freely after that.

What bugged me most is how I keep reminding myself that I have limited imagination. Once I reach a certain altitude, everything below me became an architectural model of the city.

Next time, convince yourself you're in another reality, not a limited dream scape. The city had borders, it was like how the ancient people thought the world was flat and had edges.

I can't remember how I woke up. I think I slept back after that.

What else... Can't remember. That's all. =)

Er er er I suddenly felt a humongous urge to blog. Maybe it's due to the realization that I really need to polish my writing.

So... I came on to come up with a few excuses of why I haven't been updating for such a long time.

Lazy again lo, what else... Lazy to upload pics from phone to PC then to blog.
Er... No inspiration? Or maybe I slowly started to forget about the existence of this blog thing.

I think another reason that I could come up with is that I just really am busy and didn't really put the effort into allocating time for my blog.

My First Squash Experience

My roommate Kit has been talking about playing squash together for quite some time now, so when he asked today, I agreed.

We geared up, took our rackets and headed for the squash court.

At the squash court, Kit told me some of the basic rules of the game. I understood them and then we started a few trial rounds.

I was clumsy and couldn't really catch the balls. So he said why don't I try serving. And so I did.

On my first serve, I hit too hard and the ball went missing into a small gap between us and a ceiling really high up,

The end of my squash experience. The only ball, lost.

Stupidest thing that happened after that is, my shoe followed up there. A 3-storey high ceiling. I threw it up there, thinking I could hit the ceiling and then cause the ball to fall off.

Wow, one side of the shoe gone nevermind. Next, I got even stupider by tossing another one in after many tries. Went back to the hostel room in regret and in a pair of socks.

After this, the whole experience felt more like a shoe-tossing sport. =p

I'm fine, for life is short.

Thank you Facebook, you just sorta made my day!

For clueless ones, that's a (kinda) new thing that Facebook is trying out. They put a program to work which attempts to detect human faces in pictures, then prompts Facebook users who own that picture to Tag it with a name.

Coincidentally while I was browsing Facebook, a picture I took of a 100 plus can popped up on the side, with them asking me "Whose face is this?". I must admit that really looked like two eyes and a mouth. By the way, this section appears on the far right only when you're looking at photos and pictures.

Oh well at least that looked like a robot's face?

Bah, just another computer goof.

The Wallpaper Problem (Windows 7 Starter)

So you just got that new awesome mini netbook that comes with a slick looking operating system (Windows 7 Starter in this case.) and decided to personalize it a lil'.

After a little bit of looking and poking around you should have realized that you could not change your wallpaper at all! Let alone changing the theme to that really cool looking Aero theme that had transparency. (The one that is available on all other Windows 7 versions but not this Starter one.)

As far as changing the wallpaper is concerned, it is possible. With the Oceanis Background Changer, you could get your favorite car or celebrity on screen again. I know that looking at the Windows logo all the time does get boring. And that's also a reason why I snooped around the internet to look for a tool to change that. And I found Oceanis. It's malware free, no worries.

Now you've gotten the tool necessary for changing wallpapers, go hunting for pictures! I would suggest using Google Images, search for, let's say "green" or "ferrari" as keywords then at the right side of your screen you should be able to search with advanced options such as image size with "Any size" selected. Click on "Exactly..." and then type in 1024 for the width and 600 for the height. Well again, this depends on if you're using the Starter on a 10" netbook or something else of a different measurement.

I just got that HP Mini!

2 weeks - or precisely about 12 days ago, I had my Streamyx Cool Uni Pack application submitted.

And since the line was already under my name, I didn't have to get the line terminated before I could use the package. It is done as an upgrade.

What's good is that the price for 1Mbps vs. the price of the same speed before upgrade is much less. From RM110 down to RM68 only per month. (RM88 if your area supports 4Mbps, 'cause mine doesn't.)

Yesterday, I got the free HP Mini that comes with the subscription. Sure, many other people had gotten in way earlier than me. I was lazy and indifferent to applying for this package at first, until I fell in love with netbooks' portability.

The HP Mini that I got from Streamyx is the 110 model. It runs on the Intel Atom N475 and has 1G RAM, with integrated graphics and whatnot. It is enough to run Chrome, uTorrent, WLM and some other documents without lag. Plus it's free anyway! (Only for students of tertiary education institutions)

So yeah, I got it yesterday and upon getting it, the first thing to do is of course to download all the essentials. "Things to do on a new machine", many people have their own variations, mine is as follows:

1) Name Your Machine

I named mine "Ossum".
It makes things easier when you have to identify which is your PC when using another machine to look at network computers.
Much nicer than having user-PC or acer-12d8h-0x21 as the computer name.

2) Personalise!

Change the theme to suit the look and feel to your liking.
Change the icon size, taskbar menu items size etc.

3) Download The Essentials

Google Chrome (My default and favorite browser.)
It's fast, boots up much quickly than Firefox.
Eats a just a lil' more RAM than the alternatives but it's okay.

Mozilla Firefox (For whatever reason, one must always have an alternative browser.)
This is for more stable browsing for some compatibility issues.
Not always needed.
Specifically, I only use it to get GSC's website to work properly. =D
Google Pack
Head over here to download it.
It gets you started with some freeware such as Spyware Doctor, Google Earth, Picasa, Skype, Adobe Reader etc. Don't worry, you get to pick what you want to download and install.
Easy to maintain as the Google Updater constantly updates your software.
uTorrent and FlashGet
One is my favorite Bit Torrent client and the other is my favorite free download manager.
Windows Live Essentials
Funny how this is my last one on the list.
It downloads products from Microsoft such as the Windows Live Messenger, Mail, Writer etc. etc.
My main concern here is the Windows Live Messenger.
Coincidentally, I downloaded the Beta version as I saw it on the website.
To get it, head over to get.live.com and you should see the Beta available for download.
A complete and working codec pack
For movies, of course.
Personally, I prefer and do recommend CCCP.
Archivers/Extractors
As for me, I'm all for 7-zip.
Other examples are WinRAR, WinZip etc.

4) Start using and see what's next!

Maybe it's time you start organizing folders.
Or you could explore around your new machine to look at the directory structure and files.
Perhaps you would like to download some games.
And maybe it's time to get some security software.
You would definitely want some productive software installed, check out OpenOffice.org for free alternatives or get a latest copy of Microsoft Office.
Other than that, maybe an Adobe Suite?
The options are open.

I actually wanted to do a simple write-up on the Windows Live Messenger Beta as it looks really cool right now with some extended functions and cool features, but I got really lazy when I thought of the tedious process of taking screenshots manually. Yes, this is the 4th consecutive night I see her in my dream.

This time, we're back in SMKDU. A rather different one I'd say. Well they had this pass to go to the toilet right. In my dream, there's this slot on the wall where a card is placed there. There is only one card so only one person goes to the toilet, one at a time.

There's this once when the card went missing. She came over to me and told me about it. "Jien Shen, Jien Shen! The card went missing! How?? But it isn't too big a deal.." I replied "Then nevermind la since it's okay :)". She went ballistic, "So now it's gonna go missing, and you're not gonna help me? Is that how it is?!". Wah I takut like shit, straight apologize. I went around the classroom searching for the card.

Searched around the whole freaking classroom can't find shit. Only found some pink manila cards that resembled what was the toilet card. But nope. In one drawer I even found a pass which belonged to "1 Chendana". I'm pretty sure that's how it was spelled, at least in my dream. Wah this person damn seh, go steal from Form 1 kids. I showed it to her, no good. At this point she suggested we counterfeit a toilet pass. Then I thought sure this can be easily done by scanning this Form 1 pass, photoshop it and print it out on another manila, followed by lamination.

After a while, a classmate came back and put a card into the wall slot. I straight stone. So someone just took the card to relieve themselves... The end.

Was at a gathering in someone's house, food was offered to everyone. Everyone ate, I just held the food. After a while, everyone starting bleeding from their hair and nostrils. I stone. Very eerie and scary scene. Hon Wai was one of the ones I remember from the dream. Then everyone lived buy seem kinda sick. I was the only one clean from the "toxic", so it seemed. No idea what it meant.

What could that mean?

I are cat. I spell perfectly. My grammar flawed. Who said cats can spell not? Cats, like human not, spell proper but bad grammar. I think that why we can never be scholars.

Cat are cool. My name is Kool Kat. Ya, my family name are Kat. The Kats have live under cars long time. I are Malaysian. I understood BM, BI, BC and BT. Some Hokkien and maybe Hakka even. The occasion of Teo Chew, some.

If you have the difficulty understanding my English, that because I have many language to must master. Very difficult for cat. Anyway I always be cat and cat walk around restaurants and back alleys.

I are informative a lot. If only I could speak. This are top secret confidential information I am meowing into a cat-to-human translator Blogger tool I using. No CIA or FBI know.

Enough of intro. I are here with a story to tell. 4 years ago I are born here. In Seksyen 17. I found home. The black car underneath. I walk town around area to find eat. If lucky I get fresh fish, if bad day I rummage the rubbish bin I get some chicken and fish bone. I can eat many.

When under chair of people eating, I always get shoo and step and kick. Human bad behavior. Sometimes good people exist, they give food to hungry kitty. I like cute acting near human and get some love. And when I go around town food get like that, I often story get. Many story can get.

People talk, they think nothing near listen. Cats also ears got, no? Birds don't look like have ear but what you know? They got! You know like mankind use twitter, real birds is faster info transfer speed. They always chirp chirp there whole neighborhood birds get news!

But they don't care usually, only want shit on cars like those in Taman Tun. I like Taman Tun many rich people like throw food. Don't cherish, not at all. If you go around long enough in TTDI you know how evade bird shit. All my cats mates know how. I are mastering trick to evade. Good skill.

Birds are not very best friends with cats. Cats don't like birds generally but they sing sweet songs. Maybe the human bards know what I mean. They sing the songs have story much. Always. From far lands, from town nearby. I hear story many. Like under chairs and tables at restaurants. I hear story many.

I hear story people scolding pigs. But pigs I like. I got one pig friend at a farm last time. He my penpal. We used birds as carriers message. Like twitter, feline style. He at the farm of Kuala Selangor. I always chat and wait message from bird. I like that bird. Name Jones. Good messenger. But we stop chatting one day he last message to me is he getting sold. I think that means chopped up in pasar to be buy by people. People like eat pigs. But I notice not all. Hmm..

Anyway I don't know why people scold pigs. Pigs good friend. Another type people they like talk cars. I learn many car names. I and whole family live under cars. The car I underside live not bad I know. Other than, people always talk money, girls, cheating man, family things. Us Kats are happy family. We don't even really meet a lot anyway. And apart all these, they talk also animals sometimes, cats sometimes they say cute.

I have friends from house inside. They are pet cats. They say they happy but what I say, happy cats outside house! They good food always get, but they run away when can. We cats can not stay in house. Not good for cats. They say dogs loyal but cats don't like dogs. Dogs good sometimes but always bark cats. I scared dogs. They fierce some. Some puppies I like I got friend from small kitty until now, that good dog now living in house. I always tell that dog story many many, those I see and hear from sitting human in eating place. Dog name Lucky I think. But no family name. He say he surname Chan but I laugh 'cause that human name. He like still..

I get mating heat sometime so I call for mate time. I use funny sound, female cats like. Humans scold. They always throw water I run. I only want mate. I lonely sometime no mate. I sleep under car. :(

Playing poker up to 6am in the morning calls for a really good comfy sleep.

I closed my eyes and fell into deep sleep almost immediately.

I'm in the office, doing some work. I step out and a few days have passed.

News have it that the Japanese invaded Malaysian grounds and withdrew after 3 days.

So I thought it's okay. I stayed in the office a few days and avoided all the war that went on outside.

In a car ride home, the sirens went off. No normal ambulance or police siren. It's war. More than 10 or 20 Raptors zipped past in the skies above. I kept thinking to myself, "Just like in the movies, I'll survive this." Unfortunately for me, my life isn't a movie, a Raptor spotted moving cars on a highway and decided to drop some bombs.

I died as the chain explosions flashed by my eyes.

"Please wait 15 seconds before respawning at designation respawn point."

I stone. Felt sharp pains.

Woke up.

I just witnessed Radiance giving her first sermon ever in Wesley Methodist Church, Kepong. She talked about "knowing our Father's heart". And I must say that she did extremely well for a first timer. We stuck around for a bit after that then went for the best chicken rice in the world!

Following these events we went to RLC for Radiance's choir practice. Elvin and I went to the Naza World showroom next door. We had our eyes and greasy hands on those uber looking luxury cars! Ferrari, Maserati, Bentley, Lamborghini, Audi, Benz, Mini.... etc. etc. Damn nice wei... Don't wanna show you guys on my blog. Nehhh-neh-neh-poo-poo. (See la, if Elvin uploads them on Facebook...)

After an hour plus of amazement and photo-snapping, we went back to RLC to look for Radiance. Sat down in the room and watched the choir group sing. Jeremy Lim was there too! He is on the bass for the performance I think.

We left for 1Utama next and got our "Cloudy w/ A Chance of Meatballs" tickets to the 6pm show. Headed for Old Town for an early dinner as we still have an hour till the movie. Filled ourselves up and walked back towards GSC. Elvin and Radiance stopped by HOMING to get a water bottle.

Movie time!

CWACOM rating: 7.5/10.

Movie was great, Elvin sent me home, I stoned for a while. Alan came, we went for McD's for Alan's dinner then for Vince's place for Monopoly with Wei Ling, Wei Ru, Vince, and Alan. Tay's supposed to join but his futsal thing had some problem. Matt joined later, bringing food with him and subsequently took over the banker role with a lot of conspiring ideas up his sleeves. Lol. Very fun. It started off slow and the pace picked up when everyone started building houses and paying crazy rents. Ended right about 1.30am and we left for home at around 2.40am. I dunno what they did in between those 2 times, I was on the bed lying dead.

Lol... Many took my previous iPhone entry as an insult rather than a crude joke. I don't really HATE iPhone nor Apple nor Maxis. (Well you gotta hate them, they're doing far better than you.) We all know, iPhone started off pretty affordable in Malaysia. Then the 3G came - OFFICIALLY - via Maxis. We all know that, don't we?

Do you really know what sets the normal iPhone, the iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS apart? As in what the differences are?

You think they meant the ability to surf with 3G and some 3G Special edition or something like that.

You thought WRONG.

The iPhone was an experiment, an experiment to see how excited people would go over the phone. Mr. Han next door went Ga Ga right after he set his hands on one of those now-ancient normal iPhone. Many other users went loco right after it was released to the market...

Apple and Maxis saw the potential brewing.

So Apple came up with crazy plans for Malaysians. They stroke a deal with Maxis.

Let's take a look at what the real differences are...

iPhone - Rm1 (Obsolete model)

iPhone 3G - not up to 3k.

iPhone 3GS - more than 3k ranging up to 100k.

Yes, no difference physically.

And yes, the branding after "iPhone" is merely an inside joke for the Malaysian Apple and Maxis cooperation. Seeing that they have successfully monopolized the iPhone market in this tech-savvy South East Asian peninsula (and of course not forgetting our east side Bornites), they thought pricing the phones will be nothing of any competition's concern.

Let's uncover the secret now.

iPhone 3G stood for iPhone 3-Grand. Which meant 3k for the phone.

Maxis saw a flaw.

3G is not a suitable name for the phone as the price couldn't go up to RM3,000.

So they came up with a fix. With an excuse that it sports much better features but which is virtually the same.

With the 3GS release, they can now safely say that it is technically and grammatically a correct name as it has an "S" to make 3 Grands plural, and the price that exceeds 3k this time, covers it all up.

Spotless. Ingenious. Simple.

Sydney Sand/Dust Storm

Not the morning beach I'd wake up to. (Sandstorm @ Bondi Beach)

Today early morning, I woke up and cycled to work in the chilly morning. Stinging cold wind bounced off my skin as I pierced through the morning veil on my bicycle.

I arrived and entered office full of energy and hope, just to be crushed by the huge waiting line in the call queue. 80-100 people waited in the call queue consistently from 6am till now (12pm KL time). We tried our best to kill the calls but more and more flights just keep getting cancelled.

It is terrible - even as I'm typing this - the sandstorm in Sydney and the cities surrounding.

That's not a desert mirage, it's The Sydney Opera House!

Practically most of New South Wales is covered in red dust. This condition of weather killed flights and brought a whole new level of stress to passengers and more so, call centres. Flights in and out of the NSW are very affected at this hour and passengers are all stranded, waiting for their ever delaying flights.

As I cycled in the chilling winds this morning, many people were already hiding indoors, avoiding to be choked to death by the wretched storm.

This storm serves as a major global warning and will be all over the news pretty soon. This storm is the worst that had happened since the 1940s in NSW. The particle density is 10 times worse than how it was 60 years ago.

The Earth is heading towards a very grim future.

P/s: Cancellation for flights happen every freaking 30 minutes. Damn. One moment it's the Sunshine Coast, and the next, Ballina! The weather's so screwed up already, don't make anymore calls! Stay indoors and sleep! :(

Went to the doctor to get a med cert for getting off work as I've got a bad throat.

Doctor read my blood pressure and it's 150+. That's not very good.

Time to munch on saltless, fatless food.

Saturday work stats:

Took 23 calls out of the whole 8 working hours... And one call took around 2 minutes and 30 seconds on average.
I worked 12%, stoned + played games for 88% of my day at work.
That's exclusive of 1 hour break and meal.
:)

Sales opportunities were sacrificed, of course.

Yesterday Brandon, Tay and I paid a visit to KL nightlife .

Damn seh lo the parking at Bukit Bintang... RM5 per entry la, RM4 per entry la, some even RM2 per hour. Damn seh.

We went for dinner/supper at Jalan Alor. Nothing much about the food.

Then we walked around the whole of Bukit Bintang. At least I think it's the whole of it?

We've been past the reflexolostreet, where the whole street is infested with reflexology centres.
We've been past the homestay/guest house/lodgings street.
Also, we've walked through the designer restaurants/pub/bar/bistro street.

Oh, and there's this inn called the Bight. Or... 8ight. :D

Masak-masak and Broga Hill

Merdeka eve we cooked up some pasta and watched Youtube videos in Yee Rick's house. Then went home for a short sleep until we woke up at 4.10am to head for Broga Hill!
